What To Do After Your Botox Or Xeomin Treatment

First of all, thanks for coming in! Second of all, congrats! You’re on your way to looking fabulous. However, results vary and the *best* results depend on you, and whether you read, understand and actually do everything on this list. Questions? Give us a call!

Before we get into your post-care instructions, here’s what you can expect in terms of results. Within three to seven days, the neuromodulator (Botox or Xeomin) will begin taking effect and you’ll notice weaker muscle movement in the treated areas. Two weeks after your treatment, the neuromodulator will reach peak effectiveness. From this point on, the strength of the neuromodulator will gradually become less intense until it is fully metabolized in two to four months.

For the next 4 hourS…

Take A Hands-Off Approach

Don’t touch, manipulate or apply any pressure to the treated area, and remain as upright as possible.

For the next 24 hours…

Stay Cool

Avoid high, direct heat, including saunas, hot tubs, and steam rooms. Also, avoid activities that cause strain or increase your body temperature such as heavy lifting or vigorous exercise.

For the next 2 weeks…

Give Your Skin A Break

Avoid facials, vigorous scrubbing, massaging or aggressive exfoliating in the area treated.

What To Do If You Experience These Common Side Effects….

Small, soft nodules can occur as the neuromodulator is injected. These will resolve when the medication is naturally absorbed (usually within half an hour). Please avoid massaging the treated area during this time.

Dull headaches can occur after receiving multiple injections. They usually resolve within 36 hours, and you can use over-the-counter medication for the discomfort as needed (but please avoid aspirin).

Mild discomfort can occur after receiving multiple injections. We recommend that you gently apply cool ice packs to the affected area, taking them on and off every three to five minutes for one to two hours (do not apply ice pack directly to the skin, or for more than five minutes at a time).

Small bruises can occur anytime you receive injections. They usually resolve within three to seven days, and you can gently apply makeup over them. Continue to avoid alcohol until resolved.

Itchiness can occur when skin is cleansed with alcohol prep pads. We recommend taking oral liquid Benadryl®, Allegra® or Clartin® (antihistamines available over-the-counter) as needed, as well as applying hydrocortisone 1%, and Vaseline® or Aquaphor® to the affected area up to three times per day until it resolves.
